New Samsung Galaxy S4 Ad Definitely Not So Quietly Brilliant

It’s no secret the disdain I have for the Samsung Galaxy S4. Just about everyone I know who has asked me the question about which phone to buy, the S4 or the One knows the answer that I’d give without a second thought. However after seeing Samsung’s latest ad, I’m still not going to go out and get one but it’s cemented in my mind who has won the battle on the marketing and creativity front. In an interesting social experiment, Samsung set up a booth in the middle of the busy Zurich main station with a challenge. If you could staredown the Samsung Galaxy S4 for 60 minutes, you would win one of your own. Using Samsung’s Smart Pause function, the program would buzz you if you looked away from the screen. There was also a percentage completion meter on the side letting you know how far along you were. Here’s the catch, Samsung wasn’t about to make it easy. With a series of unexpected (and very well staged) incidents and planted actors, they each had a role to play to derail your concentration on the screen.

This ad was pretty creative and kudos to the creative team behind it. If anything this video did not hard sell the product at all, nor did it appeal by pimping any one feature of the phone, rather it was just that cute and humorous that it may just appeal to the non-techy side of you. It’s not changed the way I feel about the phone, but I’ll always appreciate a good commercial. How about you? Is this one of the better Samsung Ads you’ve seen and does it impact you in any way?
