WWDC 2013: Apple Completely Redesigns iOS 7, This Changes Everything, Every Single Thing

iOS 7

Finally, the day is here and it looks like the rumors we’ve read about with regards to Apple’s iOS 7 have been pretty spot on. Early this morning, Apple announced a brand new iOS 7 that features a completely redesigned interface that is well, flat. Say “hello” to a new lock screen, new icons, new fonts, new animations and a whole host of new features that is making me impatient because these changes will only be rolled out this Falls, probably about September.

Apart from the lack of 3D effects, the new iOS 7 is now more simple, and yet rather complicated at the same time. Clutters have been removed and sorted out into new menus. Icons and typography have been changed to allow for a bigger overall outlook that looks stunning on Retina displays, and Apple also added a hint of translucency and motion effects to make the changes even more outstanding.

Hit the break for the sweet details of the new iOS 7 interface.

iOS 7 Control Center, Notification and Multitasking

Different, yet the same

The new iOS 7 looks different and same at the same time. While it may still look like a typical iOS interface, Apple has removed the clutters and enhanced user experience at the same time. Everything still works the way it should, but the company added new ways for you to interact with your device – a simple swipe of your finger can bring up important information when you need them.

Control Center

We all heard that apple will introduce a new way for users to access several important shortcuts like Airplane Mode, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth toggle, the brightness of your display, and such. That menu is known as Control Center. You can quickly access these functions on one menu simply by swiping from the bottom of your screen. Control Center includes controls for Airplane Mode, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or Do Not Disturb, and the ability to adjust screen brightness, pause or play a song, jump to the next track and stream your music with AirPlay. Control Center also gives instant access to apps like Clock, Camera, Calculator and Flashlight.

Notification Center

You’ve seen it before in concept video, so here it is, a Notification Center that is much, much more beautiful than the current one. Accessible even in the Lock Screen, all you need to do is perform a simple swipe, and you can see a summary of the things you need to know such as weather, traffic, meetings, events, and a new Today feature that gives you an at-a-glance view of your day.

Multitasking

The new multitasking feature on iOS 7 not only features a new design that makes it easier for you to manage your opened apps, it’s smart. First up, I hate to refer to Android to this, but there are no better ways to describe the new multitasking menu. Instead of tiny icons at the bottom of your screen when you double tap the home button, the new multitasking menu shows a preview of the actual apps, and can be closed by swiping. But just how smart is the new multitasking menu? We’ll go into that in the next post.

AirDrop

AirDrop is a completely new feature on iOS 7 that allows you to quickly and easily share content with people nearby. As mentioned before in the rumor roundup post, AirDrop allows users to send things to nearby friends via peer to peer connection, no network or set up required. The transfers are all fully encrypted so content gets protected.

Camera & Photos

The camera and photos app on iOS 7 have also been redesigned with a new interface and more features. The Camera app now comes with filters for you to add real-time photo effects, you know, just in case all those filters on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook are not enough to “spice up” your images. The Camera app also comes with a new square camera option, and you can quickly and easily switch between four cameras – video, photo, square and panorama, with just one swipe.

The new Photo app now comes with Moments, a new way to automatically organize your photos and videos based on time and location. Zoom out to see all your photos organized by moments, Collection of Moments and Years. Apple also brought a closer iCloud integration with a new iCloud Photo Sharing feature. You can share out Photo Streams and have friends and family contribute to that folder.

Safari

Apple’s very own browser also received a new design treat. Safari new user interface now comes with full-screen browsing, for you to see more of the things you care about. It also has a new smart search field that simplifies searching, and there’s also a new view for your bookmarks and Safari tabs. Safari also brings closer integration with iCloud using iCloud Keychain. iCloud Keychain stores important information such as passwords and credit card information, making it easier for you to move from devices to devices; the storage is secure of course. Safari also features enhanced Parental Controls, allowing you to block access to certain websites.

Siri

Say hello to the new Siri, I mean, literally, say Hello. Siri now comes with male and female voices with Twitter search integration, making it easier for you to stalk people on the micro-blogging site. Siri also has Wikipedia integration, providing access to the world’s most popular internet reference site. Siri also has Bing integration.

That’s it, for now. Sit on tight as we work on a detailed post on the all new iOS 7.
