In a press event held in New York 2 days ago, HTC became the second manufacturer behind Nokia to show off their Windows Phone 8 offerings, called simply the Windows Phone 8X and 8S by HTC. Design wise, both phones are highly reminiscent of the Lumia phones unveiled last week with a little dash of the existing One Series.
First up we have the Windows Phone 8X by HTC, the flagship model in the Windows Phone series features a 4.3Inch 1280 x 720 Super LCD 2 display with Gorilla Glass 2 coating, dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 with 1GB ram and 16GB internal storage. The camera is a 8MP shooter which is identical to the camera in the HTC One X and the cool thing about this camera is the revamped front facer. Clocking in at 2.1MP with a f/2.0 aperture, the camera shoots at a cool 88degree angle and will also capture 1080p videos.
Next the Windows Phone 8S by HTC, a mid range model which is akin to where the One S stands. Sporting a 4Inch Super LCD screen with Gorilla Glass and a dual-core 1GHz Snapdragon S4 with 512MB RAM, I can’t help but feel that the 8S is a little underpowered. While it has the S moniker, it doesn’t share the unibody metal construction but rather a polycarbonate one similar to its bigger brother.
Both devices are set to be available in early November from over 150 carriers worldwide and let’s just hope that Malaysia is one of them. No prices have been announced yet. What do you think? Will the 8S give the Lumia 920 a run for its money?
