As e-commerce continues its boom in Southeast Asia, one of the world’s largest online shopping destinations is making sure it is more attractive to customers in this region. Taobao recently enhanced its global marketplace website for a better shopping experience for users in Malaysia and Singapore.

Taobao International, a division of Taobao Marketplace that’s owned by Alibaba Group, has announced a series of service enhancements to make cross-border shopping more convenient to customers from outside of China – specifically, for those in Malaysia and Singapore. Firstly, the company revamped its homepage (world.taobao.com) to offer customised product and storefront recommendations, based on data about an individual user’s product preferences. More importantly, product pages will also have prices shown not only in Chinese Yuan, but also an approximation of that amount in the customer’s local currency.

In addition, Malaysian and Singaporean customers can also now enjoy a new consolidated shipping option called Taobao Global Direct Shipping Service. Customers who ship using this method can place orders from multiple sellers, consolidate the order into a single shipment, and pay for both the China and international portions of the cross-border delivery straight to the customer’s designated shipping address. This new service complements the existing Taobao Consolidate and Ship Service.

Customers who ship using either the new Global Direct Shipping Service or Consolidate and Ship Service will also have the international leg of the delivery guaranteed to be completed within six working days. A compensation is eligible if their purchases do not arrive within that time frame. Finally, special discounts are also applicable for Malaysian users selecting e-banking payments and Singaporean users selecting eNETS Debit as their payment method.
