Samsung’s Malaysian launch of the new Galaxy A5 and A3 series was filled with surprises. Unlike the series’ launch in India – where the company announced a whole new Galaxy E series – the Malaysian launch had the first sighting of the Galaxy A7, which is not yet announced globally just yet.

And, lying on a random table at the launch event is what you see above: the Galaxy Note Edge. According to our sources, this unique device will be coming to Malaysia as early as next month.

Announced back at IFA 2014, the Galaxy Note Edge was unveiled as a premium alternative to Samsung’s new Galaxy Note 4. It shares plenty of similar hardware with the Note 4, such as a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 2.7GHz quad-core processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, a new S Pen, 16MP Smart OIS camera and a 3.7MP front-facing shooter.

The defining feature of the Note Edge is in the display, which curves to the right side of the phone. Called the Edge Screen, this 2560 x 160 currently has few actual applications, besides being a notifications ticker and a bedside always-on clock.

From our sources, Samsung is looking for an early February release of the Note Edge – though don’t expect it to retail at a similar price to the RM2,499 Galaxy Note 4. Expect an RRP that’s “closer to RM3,000” – new technologies are certainly not cheap.
