Here’s a word of caution for all new owners of Apple’s very pretty flagship smartphone, the iPhone 5. Despite the many criticisms it has had to face since its launch in September, it is still breaking sales records left right and centre, with the last one being in China, where it managed to sell 2 million units in a single weekend. However, as the iPhone reaches more consumers, there was bound to be accidents with the device – but this is pretty impressive.
A spate of cases in China is setting a new trend for careless handling of smartphones, where reports are emerging that users are accidentally bending their iPhone 5 when sitting down with their phones in their back pocket. Carelessness aside, we’re pretty surprised that despite the chassis bending awkwardly, the glass – and more importantly, the iPhone itself – does not appear to be perturbed by the change in viewing angle at all. It seems that the cause of the chassis being prone to bending may be due to the aluminium – a soft metal – used for the frame.
Update: it has come to our attention that the images featured on the source site may have been a hoax, and remains unconfirmed.

future 5s , bend it like beckham and get twist of rock and roll.
I find it hard to believe the bent looks so perfect.
Furthemore if the case itself is bent as such, surely the internals would have break some circuitry, including the LCD panel and the display glass.
maybe photochop?
Apple’s answer to samsung’s Bendable screens? lol……………………….
…is such bent condition covered by warranty ?
What a weak smartphone.. The most expensive one in the market too.. I could sit, step and drop my Lumia 920 and its still in perfect condition..
Thats right people.. buy iPhone la..
I knew it was the right choice to jump from 4s to Lumia 920..
a lot of ppl gonna be pissed off at you… but im with you bro.. iphone is crap
Lowyat.net give me a feeling that most of their authors are bias toward Apple brand. You as an authors please be fair. I seldom see lowyat’s post any criticise toward Android phone which i found a bunch of it on the net. You get nth by showing this in lowyet’s post.
Ya me too will question the intention of the author for publishing this article . Had it be an android phone , i dont think the editor will post this article , there is just less hype in android than an iphone . Why dont they talk about the very-easy-to-crack Samsung S3 screen ? Iphone 5 by no mean , a perfect phone but i think every phone has their own weakness and this is unfair for iphone to get such negative publicity
this fake one, there is 2 more photos sharing in fb, u can see the back cover logo is different from the original iphone5 back cover. and one more thing on these 2 photos, is it possible a glass screen can bend without any crack at the front screen???
LOL! Seems like alot readers here feels like what ifelt since few months ago. This forum seems never like Apple Products.
Please think 1st before post. Obviously, the Glass screen on iPhone 5 will crack with bend such as this. IF iphone really getting into this even after bend, this ALSO PROOF that everyone should buy iphone cos you wont break your iphone, just bend it back to normal..lol..
Lumia 920 can withstand the same condition perfectly without bend? wanna try or tried before? if not, please dont use it to bash iPhone.
Yes, and Pixel Burn. Anyone seen a pixel burn effect before? Back in the Win98 days, if you use an el-cheap-china-brand monitor, after a while, the windows desktop will “etch” into the screen, even if the monitor is turned off. So it’s like a ghost win 98 image on the monitor (even if it’s switched off).
So anyway, I was in Puchong and was playing with a Samsung Galaxy S2, and one of the display unit got Pixel burn! I asked the sales staff and he got the ballz to say it was a software effect. I can sniff a con job from miles away and that was a con job.
And guess what, my friend bought a Galaxy Note , even after I warn him that Samsung screen may have pixel issue due to huge display and not enough battery juice to sustain it long term, lo and behold, he got pixel burn after 3 months using it! Of course he got warranty for it
But his new Galaxy note got screen flicker. maybe this is software/refresh rate issue but he can’t get warranty for it cause one can barely notice it.
I know it’s Smartphone screens are not CRT, but trust me, the Galaxys do FLICKER and get PIXEL BURN. I’ve seen enough units to know better. Buyers beware
yes, lowyat.net sucks, this bunch of editors are trying to act smart, but i found it the other way round, sorry
Hi guys, thank you for your feedback. Contrary to what some of our readers may think, us here at LYN are as impartial as possible when it comes to our news posts.
Before posting the news piece, I did some quick research on the matter, and found that many other publications have also published similar news, with many also speculating that the soft aluminium chassis may be the reason for the bending of the iPhone 5. The original source can be found here (published in French):

Phonearena.com’s post also had a lively debate on the matter:

Regardless, the official Apple Discussion forums also have a few cases of bent iPhone 5s (this time near the volume buttons), and the issue also appears in other unofficial Apple-related forums such as MacRumors and 9to5mac.

Of course, I won’t go so far as to say the iPhone 5 is a bad phone – it’s far from being one. However I feel our readers should be aware that the “bending iPhone 5″ phenomenon is possible – hence the publishing of this post.
You guyz a just bunch of BS. Lowyat is NOT bias, this is just the kind of news that would sell like hotcakes. Why would they wanna put news on s2 or galaxy note??? That was SOOO 2011!!!
Just wait another 3 or 6 months n the news will be all about galaxy s4. Oh ya, by then u will lowyat is Bias again, why all post about s4 …yada yada yada
Here’s a simple piece for apple fag up there. If iphone5 explode or blend, everyone read, everyone care, they’ll re-tweet.
If alcatel phones explode, screen bend or can do karate…… WE dont give a S***. WHY? Go figure
ohh no, apple try to mimic arc curve body,LOLOLOL
Bendable phones. Don’t you guys know that’s like, the latest thing since 2012/13?
face the facts, iSheeps. somehow, this time, iPhone 5 just happens to be the sh*ttest phone so far. It’s not just in lowyat.net, it’s every-effing-where!
Body dents n chips from factory?
Apple Maps iLost?
Keyboard statics?
LCD screen light leaks?
Fast scroll bug?
wifi /data bug?
and now it’s bendable?
Google ‘em up, its everywhere!
The greatest iPhone since the iPhone. yeah right.
Apple should be Patent “BENDS” UNDER STRESS on his latest product. so no one can copy his design
Really? Nobody talk about Samsung galaxy Siii motherboard dead issue and you only pick on iphone5?

If you could read french you would read the comments that this is a fake story probably by some fandroid.(Just a few pictures going around the world). And LYN is biased. Rather than stating facts from reputed sources they are still trying to get recycled news.
Why the dead screen of S3, cracked back of N4 or the software issues of Lumia is never here? Answer question of everyone to be fair not just what you want.
And FYI planes also are made of aluminium, maybe we should start making them with plastic like s3 to be more solid.
Aluminium is used for planes because of their lightness and cheapness, not for their durability. Don’t call out Fandroids when you are clearly an iSheep. And btw I use a Lumia 920 and I don’t know what software issues you’re talking about.
LYN’s authors such a bunch of monkeys. Never do research and there was no evidences. I rather read LY forum rather then this LYN. Pls do homeowork before post. Your boss not hire you and face monitor for 8 hours.
stop being so bias to Apple, get a life, or change ur domain to android.net
I’ve had the iPhone 5 for two weeks and it is bent! I’m
not against iPhones. I honestly hate android.
