Nothing primarily makes smartphones and audio products, but it seems that the company is looking to enter a new product category. Apparently, the London-based startup is currently developing AI-powered smart glasses, which may see a release next year.

Earlier this week, a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claimed that the brand is planning to release the product sometime within the first half of 2027. Citing sources “with knowledge of the matter”, Gurman noted that Nothing founder Carl Pei was initially reluctant to release smart glasses. However, he apparently recently told employees that he is shifting to a multi-device strategy.

As per the report, Nothing will be applying its usual design approach to the glasses. The brand is known for its quirky and distinctive aesthetics. Its phones feature transparent back panels and LEDs, and the headphones sport a boxy look. While it’s too early to say what the glasses will look like, the device will likely feature similar design elements.

Like the other products on the market, Nothing’s offering will come with cameras, microphones, and speakers. The glasses will rely on smartphones and the cloud for AI processing. According to Gurman, the idea here is to automate tasks and provide a personalised experience.

The AI focus shouldn’t come as a surprise. Carl Pei has previously talked about how AI will shape how people interact with smartphones. Pei envisions a future where traditional apps are obsolete. In this future, agentic AI will understand long-term user behaviour and act on their behalf. Currently, Nothing is concentrating its efforts in that direction with its Essential Space.

Aside from the smart glasses, the company is reportedly working on a new pair of AI-powered earbuds. Although the report did not go into details on the product, it claimed that the buds will be debuting “later this year”.
