It seems that Apple has no intentions on releasing a new Mac Pro anytime soon. According to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the tech giant has relegated the desktop to the back burner. With a 2026 refresh unlikely to happen, the future of the Mac Pro isn’t looking too good.
For those paying attention to the writing on the wall, this may not come as a surprise. While the Mac Pro served as a staple in Apple’s desktop lineup for quite some time, it has fallen out of favour in recent years. Following the “trash can” redesign in 2013, which the brand ultimately walked back, the device only saw sporadic updates.
The last upgrade came in 2023, when the company switched to its in-house M2 Ultra chips. A new Mac Pro was in the cards at some point, and it was meant to be equipped with the M4 Ultra chip. However, this chip is no longer in the works, and Apple has since moved on to the M5 Ultra, which will serve as the next high-end desktop processor.

According to Gurman, the brand currently only has a new Mac Studio in mind for the M5 Ultra. The analyst went on to note that Apple has “largely written off” the Mac Pro, and that the company is looking to the compact Mac Studio as “both the present and future” of its professional desktop lineup.
