Meta has rolled out several new safety tools across its platforms. These new additions, now available on WhatsApp, Messenger, Facebook and Instagram, are built on the tech giant’s broader initiative to enhance platform safety by using proactive warnings, AI-driven detection, and simplified security controls to help users stay protected against evolving online scams.
On WhatsApp, the company is introducing a new warning system that appears when users attempt to share their screen during a video call with an unknown contact. The feature is designed to combat scams where fraudsters pressure victims into revealing sensitive information such as banking details or verification codes. Meta says the alert aims to provide users with additional context to recognise and stop potential scams before they happen.

Meanwhile, Messenger is testing enhanced AI-powered scam detection tools within chats. When activated, the feature will flag suspicious messages from unfamiliar contacts and prompt users to send recent chat messages for automated scam review. If the system detects possible fraud, users will receive information about common scam tactics along with recommended actions such as blocking or reporting the contact.

Meta is also expanding support for Passkeys across Facebook, Messenger, and WhatsApp. The feature allows users to securely log in using biometric authentication (fingerprint, facial recognition, or a device PIN) instead of traditional passwords. This aims to make account access both faster and more resistant to phishing attempts.

Additionally, Facebook and Instagram users can make use of Security Checkup, which provides tailored recommendations like updating passwords and reviewing login activity. On WhatsApp, a Privacy Checkup feature offers similar guidance, walking users through important privacy settings, including who can add them to group chats.
