realme 15 Pro GoT Limited Edition Lightning Review: A Song Of Battery Life And Tie-Ins

Would you believe it actually outlives most of the show’s characters?

The Game of Thrones (GoT) limited edition realme 15 Pro, which was launched earlier this month, is definitely something that came out of left field. It is an official tie-in with the famous HBO TV show of the same name, which also became ironically infamous due to its horrid final season.

Thankfully, the phone doesn’t share the same fate, but there’s still more to talk about.

What Am I Looking At?

Like the character Melisandre, take off the glamour and what we’re looking at is… not an old lady, but actually a midrange device. Fancy aesthetics and optional custom UI themes aside, the GoT limited edition is essentially the same phone as the original realme 15 Pro.

To the brand’s credit, a lot of effort has gone into this tie-in’s design. This can be seen from the various house sigils on the camera island (or “plateau” in Applenese), the sculpted dragon claws, the etched mottos on the camera rings, as well as the overall black and gold colour theme. Personally, it looks good enough to be placed on display along with your other GoT merch, if you have any.

Of course, there’s the colour changing gimmick. Exposing the phone’s rear panel to temperatures of 44-degrees and above, preferably by hot water (and not dragon fire), will see its matte black texture change to what realme calls “Targaryen Red”. This gimmick is a fun thing to have, but much like the excitement surrounding the show’s final episode, it wears off too quickly – literally. All it takes is a couple of seconds before it reverts back.

Then there’s the custom UI, where you can choose between Ice and Fire themes. Regardless of which, what you’ll get are animated lock screens, charging animations and icons that are unique to them. The Fire version is set as default, while the more standard themes are available if you care for a more traditional experience.

Like the Winter (which may or may not include White Walkers), the realme 15 Pro Game of Thrones limited edition has officially arrived. Featuring unique aesthetics, UI themes and a colour changing rear panel, this limited edition variant of the phone is slated for release on 10 October 2025. It’ll be priced at RM2,499, and is only available in 300 units in Malaysia. OwnYourRealPower GameofThronesPhone realme15Pro realmeMY

What’s Good About It?

realme 15 pro game of thrones review

Like the original version, the cameras on the realme 15 Pro GoT Edition are pretty decent for a device of this category. Photos taken by its 50MP primary and 50MP ultra-wide deliver decent results, with plenty of details and vivid colours. However, low-light shots may appear less than stellar due to quality compensation and slower shutter speeds.

Video capabilities are also fine, allowing for you to record up to 4K resolution at 60fps. However, the same caveats apply here, where low-light footage will exhibit grainy results and poor details.

While we’re still here, the AI Genie tool from the original realme 15 pro is also present on this model, and is available via the first-party Photos app. This feature allows you to edit your photos with generative AI by simply providing your commands via voice or by typing. While it’s not entirely accurate, it is a fun tool to have and is readily available when you need it.

Then there’s the two exclusive camera filters: Kingdom and Northland. The former offers a warm tint to your photos, while the latter does the complete opposite. They’re nothing spectacular, but are theme-appropriate to say the least.

Arguably the best thing about the phone is its 7,000mAh battery, which could last for almost three days on a single charge with careful use. Technically, it even outlives most major characters from the show, at least in terms of on-screen appearances. For reference, Cersei Lannister and Daenerys Targaryen lasted around 4.7 and 5.2 hours respectively across all eight seasons.

And to keep things even going further, supported on the realme 15 Pro GoT edition is 80W fast charging via USB-C. A quick 30-minute charge enables for 50% battery top-up, while a full charge takes about an hour.

We brought the realme 15 Pro Game of Thrones Limited Edition out for a spin in Belfast, Ireland. Included in the places we’ve visited for the photowalk are The Dark Hedges and Dunlace Castle – two locations featured in the TV show. #OwnYourRealPower #GameofThronesPhone #realme15Pro #realmeMY

What’s The Catch?

realme 15 pro game of thrones review

Being a mid-range device that’s equipped with a Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, you can expect the realme 15 Pro to handle your everyday apps modestly. Performance isn’t silky smooth, as there are moments of stuttering and slowdowns but, thankfully, these don’t occur too often.

You can also forget about playing games such as Wuthering Waves and Destiny: Rising at the highest settings, let alone at higher frame rates. Don’t get me wrong; they are still very playable, but at the cost of pretty visuals. On the flip side, loading speeds are pretty fast and heat management is commendable as well.

While the realme 15 Pro is capable of reaching 6,500 nits of peak brightness, this isn’t enabled by default. It’s worth noting, as you’ll likely struggle to see the screen clearly under bright daylight since it’s limited to just 1,800 nits out of the box.

On the software side of things, my least favourite aspect of realme phones is the amount of bloatware that comes preinstalled. Expect to find several first-party apps, e-commerce platforms, streaming services, and more when you browse the app drawer. There are also the annoying, borderline ad-like notifications from some of these apps. Thankfully, these can be turned off, albeit manually.

While the realme 15 Pro proudly outlives most of GoT’s named characters, the same can’t be said when it comes to some of its competition. As revealed by realme during the original model’s launch, the phone is promised three major OS updates and four years of security patches. For some, this arrangement may seem a bit too short.

What Else Is There?

Being a special tie-in, the realme 15 Pro GoT edition comes with exclusive goodies for avid fans of the show and collectors alike. For starters, it comes packaged in a special box that flips open to reveal a pop-up paper version of the Iron Throne, which doubles as a stand for the phone, by the way. Also included, apart from the device itself, is a custom silicon case, an 80W charging brick, USB-C to C cable, a Hand of the King themed SIM ejector tool, postcards, and stickers.

In all honesty, I do find the contents to be somewhat lacking. While they are still cool to have, I would’ve loved to see a bit more item variety, such as exclusive charms and so on.

Should I Buy It?

realme 15 pro game of thrones review

If you’re into collecting limited edition products and are still a big Game of Thrones fan, this could be a nice addition to your shelf. It features several design elements that pay strong homage to the show, and even comes with a cool party trick. Not to mention, it’s a fully usable phone with modest performance, commendable cameras, and impressive battery life.

That said, if you’re simply after a mid-range smartphone, you might want to consider the standard realme 15 Pro instead. It’s more affordable, starting from RM1,799 and topping out at RM2,099, while the GoT Edition comes in at RM2,499. Also keep in mind that only 300 units (out of 5,000) of the special tie-in model are available in Malaysia.
