It’s been a hot minute since the internet got any news of NVIDIA’s 12VHPWR connector issue with its RTX 5090. Now, in a span of just two days, there is not one, but four cases of melted power connectors involving the top-tier Blackwell card.
Out of the four RTX 5090 cards that burned out their 12VHPWR, three of them were cards made by MSI. This is due to the yellow PCIe connector head that is unique to the brand’s RTX 50 Series. Also, all three GPUs seemed to be from the brand’s Ventus Series. The fourth unfortunate user’s RTX 5090 was from PNY.

The level of damage on these burnet 12VHPWR connectors also vary from user to user. One user only had one pin inside their RTX 5090 burnt, but with seemingly no damage, while another had the entire top row of connectors fried, with their card definitely toast. At the end of the day, the damage was already done. At the time of writing, they were still waiting on the RMA for their card.
As Videocardz points out, these are just the cases known on Reddit. There are likely several more cases, with a good number of them going unreported, as many would simply just get in contact with the original card sellers GPU vendors. The four users also reported the same issues they experienced before the card crapped out from the meltdown: black screens, flickering, and no-signal crashes.
The day has finally come for me too

On that note, we still highly recommend that you use the provided 12VHPWR cable with the GPU, as well as the relevant cables that come bundled with your PSU.
