Apple has just recently launched the new 14-inch MacBook Pro. As expected, the main upgrades to the device come in the form of the M5 chip, as the brand seems to be saving the more radical changes for the next generation. Now, more details on this M6 MacBook Pro have surfaced.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is preparing to launch MacBook Pro models either in late 2026 or early 2027. These laptops, reportedly codenamed K114 and K116, will feature thinner and lighter frames, as well as OLED touch screens.

Unlike other companies, Apple seems to believe that touch interfaces are incompatible with vertical computer screens. This is not an unreasonable stance, as the displays of existing touch PCs have the tendency to bounce or move back when touched.

However, Apple could be working on a way to mitigate this problem. Gurman mentioned that the brand is equipping the M6 MacBook Pro with a reinforced hinge and screen hardware. That said though, the report did not elaborate on this detail. Beyond that, the new Macs will still retain a keyboard and trackpad, making use of the touch screen optional.

Given the hardware changes, Gurman expects the M6 MacBook Pro to be pricier, likely by a few hundred dollars. Aside from that, Apple is reportedly holding off on developing other Macs with touch screens, as it is waiting to see how these models will be received.
