It looks like Xiaomi’s push into the electric vehicle (EV) segment isn’t showing any signs of stopping, as spy shots allegedly featuring the prototype of its third model have appeared online. Believed to be known as the YU9, the newer vehicle is shown to be a larger SUV.
However, most of the EV is wrapped in camouflage, therefore effectively hiding its overall design. One thing’s for certain, the YU9 is looking to be the least curviest from Xiaomi’s vehicle line-up, and arguably the least Porsche-inspired. Although, we wouldn’t be surprised if the finalised version would end up being the company’s answer to the Porsche Cayenne, especially seeing how the SU7 and YU7 are homages to the Panamera and Macan, respectively.
The YU9 is rumoured to be more than 5.2 metres long and 1.8 metres high. It is also said to be equipped with LiDAR to power its advanced driver-assistance systems, along with two battery configurations: standard and extended range. The latter allegedly features a 80kWh battery that’s capable of 400km electric-only range.
In case you’re wondering, the images shared are from the SU9’s high altitude test drive, which took place at the Kunlun Mountains on the Pamir Plateau. According to CarNewsChina, details of the test were revealed by Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun, though he did not disclose what exactly it was for. The images shared here are from various users on Weibo who spotted the convoy while they were travelling in the area.

It is said that Xiaomi’s full-sized electric SUV has been out on the road for testing at least since summer, and it is unclear when the company aims to officially debut it. Although, an early 2026 window seems plausible.
