Maxis showed off the applications of 5G Advanced early last year. But it looks like it won’t be the first to roll the tech out to its commercial customers. That honour goes to YES, which announced today that it’s begun rolling out the new tech. Coverage starts in the Klang Valley as you’d expect, but the telco says that it will be available nationwide before the year ends.
As part of its 5G Advanced rollout, Yes also says that it is including what is called “advanced network slicing”. This gives what the telco calls a “quality-of-service prioritisation”, or a “VIP lane” to ensure consistent connectivity across its network. Part of this is the integration of both the 700MHz and 3,500MHz spectrum that lets it make use of the best of both worlds. For context, the former has better range and penetration, while the latter can carry more data.
In conjunction with the rollout of Yes 5G Advanced, the telco is also offering a couple of limited-time offers. One is the Yes 5G Advanced Broadband Bundle for RM68 a month, offering uncapped data and speed. The telco is also throwing in the router for free.
Then there’s the Yes Infinite+ Advanced phone bundles, which stats from RM88 a month. As part of the signup, potential customers can also get a Nothing Phone (3) or a Samsung Galaxy S25 for free. Existing customers will also be upgraded to 5G Advanced for free.
