For better or worse, someone named Doug Bowser leading Nintendo of America as its president is both fitting and ironic. He took over the role back in 2019, when Reggie Fils-Aime announced his departure from the company. Now, six years later, Bowser is leaving the role himself, effective at the very end of this year.
VGC reports that, beyond being president of Nintendo of America, he is also serving as COO. Starting next year, both titles will be taken over by one Devon Pritchard, herself a 19-year Nintendo veteran. As an aside, the report mentions that Satoru Shibata, formerly Nintendo of Europe president, will take on the role of CEO for Nintendo of America.
Bowser’s tenure as president for Nintendo of America is a relatively short one, at least compared to his predecessor. After all, Reggie had the role for 16 years. That may have contributed to the perception that Bowser has made very little public appearances compared to his predecessor.
Also, at the time, Bowser was credited as being responsible for the success of the original Switch despite being relatively new to the company. Not sure what his legacy with the company will be considering the controversies surrounding the Switch 2, especially that one time when he committed the same cardinal sin as Xbox when the Xbox One was new.
