Volvo has unveiled the 2026 edition of its EX90 all-electric SUV, which comes with some major upgrades. Its most significant improvement being the adoption of the automaker’s new 800-volt electric architecture that’s claimed to help the car charge more quickly and operate more efficiently.
Compared with the previous 400V setup, the 800V platform generates less heat, enabling the EX90 to replenish energy faster. Volvo states that with a 350 kW DC fast charger, the SUV can recover up to 250 km of range in just 10 minutes.

Charging performance is further optimised by in-house battery management software, which employs smart algorithms to maximise efficiency. Beyond charging, the 800V system also delivers higher power for quicker acceleration while reducing energy consumption. Additionally, the shift to this architecture lowers material usage, making both the battery and motors lighter.
Another change is the upgrade to a dual NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin-based core computer, which gives the EX90 500 TOPS (Trillion Operations Per Second) of computing power. This allows the SUV to improve its safety performance through data, software and AI. Performance-wise, the EV features a twin motor setup delivering 380 kW and 910 Nm torque, and is powered by a 111 kWh battery that offers a WLTP range of up to 623 km.

Talking about safety, the EX90 is now equipped with safety alerts for slippery roads, hazards ahead, and accidents ahead, along with the integration of automatic e-call functionality (availability based on market) with Emergency Stop Assist (ESA). The purpose of the latter is to bring the SUV to a controlled stop when the driver is not responding to hands-off warnings. After the car is stationary, the e-call feature will kick in and connect to a Volvo-linked emergency call centre, where operators can communicate and alert emergency services if needed.
Other new features include expanded automatic emergency steering functionality in darkness, along with Park Pilot Assist for parallel parking. The 2026 EX90 also gets an electrochromic panoramic roof, which was first introduced in the Volvo ES90. These are the upgrades that have been made to the 2026 model of the EV.

Currently, there is no information on when the 2026 Volvo EX90 will arrive in the local market. For your reference, the existing model was launched in Malaysia back in April this year with a starting price of RM442,888.
