Back in 2023, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg reported that Apple may be working on a touch screen OLED MacBook Pro. At the time, it was estimated that it would launch this year. More recently though, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that it may not happen until late next year instead, if not outright in 2027.
In a post on X, Kuo says that the touch screen OLED MacBook Pro is only expected to enter mass production by late 2026. The touch panel itself will make use of on-cell touch tech. Models that come after that, likely in 2027 and beyond, may also include touch support.
This includes the second generation entry level MacBook powered by an iPhone chipset. Kuo had previously claimed that the first generation of this MacBook will launch late this year or early next. More recently, the analsyst says that it is slated for mass production in Q4 of this year. Which is only half a month away at this point.
It’s been said plenty of times before, and it will surely be mentioned again. But having touch screens on a MacBook will blur the line between it and the iPad Pro line. Not sure if the two will start cannibalising each other in sales when it finally happens. But it sure is hard to argue against the intuitiveness of a touch screen. Though it remains to be seen what sort of price will we be paying for it, literally.
