These days, LEGO and gaming history go kind of hand in hand. A couple of months ago, we saw the brick Nintendo Game Boy getting announced. This month, it’s something from Sega. Very specifically though, it’s the Sega Genesis controller, and it’s the first generation version with its distinct lack of buttons.
This is a 260-piece set that includes not just the controller, but also a display stand. According to its official product page, it also “includes regional stickers for customisation”, for those who prefer to call it the Mega Drive. But more importantly, flip it around and you’ll see the Green Hill Zone of the original Sonic the Hedgehog.
Unlike the Game Boy, which is only available starting next month, the Sega Genesis Controller is already available, sort of. It’s currently being circulated as a Gift-with-Purchase (GWP) item, that you get for “free” if you buy at least RM620 worth of LEGO. This applies to the official online store, official retailers like Box Of Bricks, as well as LEGOLAND. And the promo lasts until 17 September according to the websites showing said promo.
That being said, the official product page does also mention a price of RM89.90. The price is crossed out at the time of writing because of of the GWP promo, but we’ve reached out to LEGO to find out if it will be available as a standalone purchase after 17 September.
