Following the conclusion of Apple’s keynote event, the company has officially announced that iOS 26, the next major update for iPhones, will officially launch on 15 September. One of the most noticeable changes is the introduction of Liquid Glass design as well as redesigned app icons, to name a few.

However, as usual with any OS updates, iOS 26 will feature various new features alongside additional quality of life updates. Chief of these additions is Apple Intelligence, which now allows iPhone consumers to use the Live Translate feature across Messages, FaceTime, and even in person through the device. Apple Intelligence also lets users search up objects of interest that they are viewing on their iPhone screens.

In terms of how it will affect the overall phone, Apple stated that iOS 26, along with the A19 chipset, can extend the iPhone 17 series’ battery life. According to the tech giant, if this is paired with ProMotion, the new flagship phones can get up to 30 hours of video playback. Additionally, the OS introduces a new Adaptive Power Mode, which learns the user’s typical battery consumption, predicts when the device will run low, and will intelligently conserve power to help extend it until the end of the day.

iOS 26 introduces a new screening tool for calls and messages that will bar unknown numbers from disturbing the user unless they provide the reason why they are calling. The screening feature also extends to messages, as unknown senders will appear in a dedicated folder and will remain silenced until the user accepts them. Not only that, but the OS also adds new features to CarPlay, Apple Music, Maps, Wallet, and Apple Games, a brand-new app that allows users to access all of their games in one place. iOS 26 will be available as a free software update for iPhone 11 and later models on the scheduled date.

The watchOS 26 and iPadOS 26 will also be coming in on the aforementioned date alongside most things announced today. Starting with WatchOS 26, this update will be available to the Apple Watch Series 6 onwards, the second-generation Apple Watch SE, or any of the premium Apple Watch Ultra models.

A flick gesture will make its debut together with this OS, but it is only limited to Watch Series 9 or later. The gesture allows users to quickly dismiss incoming calls and notifications, silence timers and alarms, or go back to the main watch face. Additionally, the watchOS 26 can track ambient noise levels and automatically adjust their volume so they’re not as loud in quiet situations.

On the other hand, much like iOS 26, iPadOS 26 will also showcase the Liquid Glass design. But, more importantly, the new windowing system will be available in this OS version. which lets users resize apps and move them around their screen as if it were on a Mac.

iPad will be receiving the Files app, which allows users to manage stored files on their device and in iCloud. The OS will also include the Preview app that lets you view and annotate PDFs. However, it is worth noting that, according to Apple’s press release, some features may not be available in all languages or regions, and availability may vary due to local law. For more information on that, check Apple’s website.
