BMW has officially unveiled the first model under its new Neue Klasse line-up; the iX3 50 xDrive. The fully electric Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), as the automaker calls it, made its debut at the IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich, right on schedule.
The iX3 closely mirrors the concept showcased last year, staying true to its futuristic design language. At the front, it features the iconic kidney grille inspired by the 1960s Neue Klasse models, flanked by sleek, angular headlights. Notably, traditional chrome accents have been replaced with illuminated design elements, enhancing its modern and progressive character.
At the rear, the SUV sports wide horizontal taillights that extend toward the centre, complemented by a sculpted roof spoiler and a large diffuser designed to improve aerodynamics. Standard equipment includes 20-inch alloy wheels, with the option to upgrade to 21-inch or 22-inch wheels. Customers can also choose between M-specific or Individual light alloy wheel designs for further personalisation.
Inside, the new BMW iX3 offers a futuristic cabin defined by a floating instrument panel that seamlessly merges into the expansive door trims. At the heart of the interior lies the debut of the BMW Panoramic iDrive, powered by the newly developed BMW Operating System X. This next-generation interface integrates display surfaces, ambient lighting, and acoustic design into a unified, immersive experience that drivers can personalise through My Modes. The interior is further enhanced with a panoramic roof, a newly designed steering wheel and centre console.
Adding another layer of theatre, the optional BMW Iconic Glow package transforms each encounter with the car into a spectacle. Depending on the selected theme—Relaxed, Balanced, or Excited—the vehicle orchestrates a coordinated play of light and sound. The welcome experience begins the moment the driver approaches, continuing inside with an animated greeting that sweeps across the Panoramic Vision display and the Central Display.
In terms of luggage capacity, the BMW iX3 has 520 litres that expands to 1,750 litres by folding the rear seats. There is also an additional 58 litres of storage in the frunk of the car. If that is not enough, it has a maximum trailer load of 2,000 kg.
Moving on to performance, the new BMW iX3 50 xDrive is equipped with two electric motors that deliver a combined output of 345 kW and 645 Nm of torque. Its electric all-wheel-drive system features an upgraded synchronous motor (EESM) at the rear axle and a newly developed asynchronous motor (ASM) at the front. This setup claims to have both responsiveness and long-range capability.
The motors are powered by a 108.7 kWh battery pack that has a range of 805 km, and since the iX3 Neue Klasse is built on the 800V architecture, it facilitates DC charging up to 400 kW. It can replenish itself from 10 to 80 per cent in 21 minutes. The new iX3 will also support extensive bidirectional charging functions, including Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) capabilities.

At the core of the iX3’s driving character is a next-generation control unit known as the “Heart of Joy.” This advanced system oversees every aspect of the drivetrain and chassis, processing data up to ten times faster than traditional controllers.
Complementing this is a second high-performance computer dedicated to automated driving and parking technologies. Powered by the BMW Symbiotic Drive system, it fuses driver inputs with intelligent, AI-driven software to elevate convenience and safety.
Among its highlights are an enhanced Motorway Assistant that enables extended periods of hands-free driving, and a City Assistant capable of recognising and responding to traffic lights automatically. As for the price of the car, the automaker, as usual, is being tight lipped about it.
