BYD Malaysia has released a teaser video on its social media platforms, hinting at the arrival of its next EV model for the local market. The video prominently features the number six, ending with the caption “Coming Soon”. This has sparked speculation that the model in question could be the BYD Seal 6.
The BYD Seal 6, which belongs to the brand’s Ocean Series, is offered in several variants in China. Among them is the Seal 06 DM-i, a plug-in hybrid available in both saloon and estate body styles. There is also the Seal 06 EV, a fully electric alternative to the DM-i models.
The Seal 06 DM-i sedan made its debut at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show, featuring BYD’s latest fifth-generation DM hybrid system and comes in five variants in China. This plug-in hybrid pairs a 1.5-litre engine producing 74 kW and 126 Nm of torque with an electric motor and battery set-up.
The entry-level variant is equipped with a 10.08 kWh battery, delivering a CLTC-rated all-electric range of 80 km, and is powered by a 120 kW motor with 210 Nm of torque. Higher-spec versions upgrade to a 15.874 kWh battery, extending the range to 120 km (CLTC), alongside a more potent 160 kW EHS160 motor producing 260 Nm of torque. The price of the saloon begins from CNY 99,800 (~RM59,131).
The Seal 06 EV also comes in three variants. The base variant is powered by a rear-mounted 110 kW motor. It features a 46.08 kWh LFP battery pack that offers a CLTC range of 470 km. As for the higher spec, it also has a rear-mounted motor that produces 160 kW. For the battery, it comes with a 56.6 kWh unit that offers a CLTC range of 545 km. It has a price range of CNY 109,800 – 129,800 (~RM65,056 – RM76,906).
As of now, these are the three models that are most likely to debut in the Malaysian market. However, there is chance that it could be the Sealion 06, but since it is was only launched two months ago, the chances seems to be very slim. Nevertheless we will only know for sure once BYD Malaysia announces what is coming next.
