At the end of last week, Google announced that it is rolling out AI Mode in Search to more countries, including Malaysia. More recently, the internet search giant has announced that it is rolling the feature out locally.
In case you missed it, AI Mode uses a custom version of Google Gemini 2.5. Using this allows your Search queries to be longer and more complex, typically requiring multiple conventional searches. In essence, the experience will be similar to inputting queries into the Gemini app. As such, you can also ask follow-ups.
Similarly, AI Mode in Search is made to be multimodal as well. If you prefer to enunciate your question rather than type it out, you can. If using an image would work better, then Google Lens is also an option. You’ll see both the microphone and Lens icon in AI Mode search just as you would with the regular search.
Google may have announced though that it has begun rolling out AI Mode in Search, but the as with most rollouts, this is a gradual process. Within our own team, some of us have gotten access to AI Mode. Others, on the other hand, are getting the old “not currently available on your device or account”. So don’t be too surprised if you don’t already have it at your disposal. If you don’t see the AI Mode option, you can head over to google.com/aimode to be sure.
