Gentari and Gamuda (via Gamuda Energy) have announced a partnership to develop around 1.5GW of solar power capacity, supported by battery energy storage systems (BESS). The project will be carried out under Malaysia’s Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS) and is intended to supply power to hyperscale data centres.
The collaboration combines Gentari’s experience in renewable energy development with Gamuda’s track record in large-scale engineering and infrastructure projects. Both companies aim to address the rising power needs of data centres, which are projected to exceed 5GW by 2035 due to increasing demand from cloud services, artificial intelligence, and digital platforms.

“At Gentari, we are committed to working with partners like Gamuda to deliver practical, scalable clean energy projects that advance the nation’s net-zero ambitions and contribute to the global energy transition,” commented Gentari’s Chief Renewables Officer Low Kian Min. Currently, the company has over 8GW of renewable energy capacity installed or under development across its markets.

Meanwhile, Gamuda said the partnership is designed to provide a reliable pipeline of clean energy to ensure data centre operations in Malaysia can expand with lower carbon impact. “This landmark partnership sets the model for future collaborations aimed at powering sustainable development across various industries in supporting the national net-zero ambition,” said Gamuda Energy’s Director Joshua Kong Sing Hoe.
