Malaysians will soon need to register for MyDigital ID in order to access the MyJPJ and MyBayar PDRM apps. The two government platforms have integrated the digital identification system and will soon rely on it as the sole login method.
Currently, the user can still log into these apps with either their existing credentials or MyDigital ID. However, the latter will be used exclusively once the single login method is rolled out to the two platforms.
While it is still uncertain when this will come into effect, the government urges Malaysians to sign up for the digital identification system to ensure continued access to the services. The MyJPJ app lets the user view and renew their driving license and road tax, while the MyBayar PDRM platform is used for checking and setting police traffic summonses.
MyDigital ID chief executive officer Nik Hisham Nik Ibrahim said in a statement that this system promises a new era of digital identity verification that is simpler, safer, and more transparent. The platform recently added support for biometric logins via the user’s fingerprint.
As of last month, MyDigitalID is linked with 82 digital systems, including 35 government platforms. While registering for MyDigital ID is still optional, the government is considering making it mandatory.
