NVIDIA’s H20 Chips are no good to China and pose a threat to the country’s national security, so says a social media account affiliated with Chinese state media. According to them, the GPU brand’s latest chips are neither technologically advanced, nor are they environmentally friendly.
The statement comes from a WeChat account called Yuyuan Tantian, which is a known affiliate account of the Chinese state media’s broadcasting channel, CCTV. “When a type of chip is neither environmentally friendly, nor advanced, nor safe, as consumers, we certainly have the option not to buy it.” Yuyuan Tantian said in its article.

China first summoned NVIDIA to a meeting back in July, after fears of that backdoors, kill switches, and spyware could have secretly been installed into its H20 Chips. Such claims have already been dismissed by the green GPU maker, even going so far as to release a public statement that no such implementations were in place.
“There are no back doors in NVIDIA chips. No kill switches. No spyware. That’s not how trustworthy systems are built — and never will be.”
Despite the fears, NVIDIA received permission from the US government to continue selling its H20 AI chips in China, after providing assurances that it will continue to seek approval for such shipments, moving forward.
