After a 24-year hiatus, the iconic Honda Prelude is making its long-awaited return—this time as a hybrid. The two-door coupe is slated to debut in Japan in September 2025, marking a new chapter in the Prelude’s legacy. Ahead of its launch, the coupe is currently being showcased at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS).
The revived Prelude features a sleek “Unlimited Glide” design, drawing inspiration from the graceful lines of a glider. At the front, it sports distinctive L-shaped headlights set within a wing-shaped frame, while the rear is accentuated by full-width taillights. The overall profile is clean and aerodynamic, defined by smooth, continuous curves that echo the motion of flight.
Buyers will have a choice of four exterior colours: Moonlit White Pearl (first introduced on the Acura Performance EV Concept), Meteoroid Grey Pearl, Crystal Black Pearl, and Flame Red. A limited-run Honda On special edition will also be offered at launch in Japan, featuring a Moonlit White Pearl finish with a contrasting black roof.
Inside, the cabin shares several design elements with the Honda Civic, starting with the 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen. The three-spoke steering wheel has been retained but now features a sportier flat-bottomed design.

Other interior highlights include hexagon-shaped air vents, a parking brake button positioned on the right, and a drive mode selector accompanied by a prominent S+ button on the left—hinting at enhanced sport performance at the driver’s command.
In terms of the powertrain, nothing much has been unveiled by the automaker except that it will feature Honda’s latest e:HEV hybrid technology. This hybrid terrain is expected to come with a 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre engine paired with a small motor.
The Prelude will also debut Honda’s new drive mode known as the Honda S+ Shift. The automaker claims that this drive mode will enhance the driving experience by simulating gearshifts.
Now, with the car being launched soon, will the car head to Malaysia anytime soon? Well, it is very likely, as the car was first shown here during the KLIMS 2024 and as mentioned above it is being showcased at GIIAS, making a strong case for a Asean market debut.
