According to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, the National Integrated Immigration Systems (NIISe) is currently in development and will likely begin operating in phases starting March next year. The NIISe project will extensively rely on artificial intelligence to improve screenings at Malaysia’s borders.
One of the key AI features in NIISe is an automated biometric identification system. It combines facial, fingerprint and iris recognition to identify individuals entering the country. The integration of these elements allows for a quicker process that is more accurate.

Moreover, NIISe will leverage a risk assessment engine and big data analytics to assist officers in identifying security threats, including fake passports and criminal activity. In addition to this, the project will employ business intelligence to detect travel patterns and suspicious behaviour. Aside from that, NIISe will be able to identify potential risks like repeated travels by the same person.
Of course, no AI-powered system is complete without a chatbot, so the project will feature one as well. Saifuddin stated that the AI chatbot will be deployed to help the public with technical support on the new system.

He went on to add that the Home Ministry will not compromise when it comes to national security and border control. The NIISe project will be replacing the current Malaysian Immigration System (MyIMMs), which has been operating for more than 20 years.
