Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced today that the price of RON95 fuel will be reduced to RM1.99 from RM2.05. This announcement was made during his special televised address to Malaysians regarding the targeted oil subsidies.
This reduction, according to him, will be implemented before the end of September 2025. “Before the end of September, I will ensure the implementation of fuel price reduction to RM1.99 per litre,” he added.
The Prime Minister added that this initiative will benefit 18 million car drivers and motorcyclists, including youths as young as 16 and gig workers. He stated that this targeted approach aligns with the government’s efforts to optimise national resources and minimise subsidy wastage for the benefit of the people.
However, the market cost price of oil is RM2.50, and this will be charged to those who are not listed under the targeted oil subsidy. Furthermore, this price will also be applied to tourists and immigrants once the subsidy is implemented.

Besides the oil price, the Prime Minister also stated that the scheduled toll price hike for 10 highways will be postponed. Although the increases were in line with existing concession agreements, the decision was made to ease the financial burden on the people.
“If we follow the projected increase in toll rates this year according to the agreement, this is an old agreement and we should not be burdened by the company and the previous government administration,” he said. “But we agree that the increase should not be implemented because the government will bear the cost of more than RM500 million so that the toll is not increased.”

According to Malay Mail, the highways and expressways affected by the toll-rate freeze announced, as identified by the Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, includes:
• South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE)
• Cheras-Kajang Highway (Grand Saga)
• KL-Putrajaya Expressway (MEX)
• KL-Kuala Selangor Highway (LATAR)
• Butterworth Outer Ring Expressway (LLB)
• Senai-Desaru Expressway (SDE)
• East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2)
• Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Bridge (JSAHMS)
• Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE)
• New North Klang Straits Bypass (NNKSB)
This toll hike freeze is expected to benefit around 941,000 users, particularly daily commuters travelling between home and work. Additionally, the Prime Minister confirmed that the government will provide over RM500 million as compensation to the affected companies through the Ministry of Finance, to ensure uninterrupted operations and maintenance of the highways.
