When we first laid eyes on the the MSI Claw 8 with the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme at Computex 2025, it was clear that the PC brand was intent on jumping onto the AMD bandwagon and fit right in with the other major gaming handheld brands. The console recently popped up in the SIRIM database, and our sources indicated that a launch is likely to occur at the end of August.
The MSI Claw 8 was filed under VSTEC Astar Sdn Bhd, with the registration having been done on 14 July 2025. The applicant is one of two known distributors used by MSI, the other one being Achieva Technology Sdn Bhd. Beyond that, there is no further news.
As a quick primer, the new MSI Claw 8 is powered by AMD’s Ryzen Z2 Extreme APU, a far cry from the original Claw handhelds that were powered by Intel’s Meteor Lake and Lunar Lake processors. Specs-wise, it retains the 8-inch IPS touchscreen but this time, MSI has added support for variable refresh rate (VRR) of up to 120Hz.
Other specifications include 24GB DDR5 RAM, 1TB of PCIe 4.0 storage plus a microSD card slot of storage expansion, and an 80Wh battery for ample power. Ports-wise, the Claw 8 comes with two USB4 port, a power button that doubles as a fingerprint reader, and the usual set of buttons and joysticks. And yes, that includes the back buttons too.
