The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is currently investigating a TikTok user for allegedly posting false and offensive content about Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The individual reportedly made two separate posts of this nature. As part of the investigation, the commission has confiscated the user’s mobile phone and SIM card.
MCMC believes the user uploaded the content in response to issues regarding immoral parties within the country, as well as the Prime Minister’s official statement on public incentives. This individual is also suspected of making false and extremely offensive accusations about the Prime Minister’s official overseas trips.
The TikTok user’s statement was recorded on Monday, 21 July, at the MCMC headquarters in Cyberjaya. The government body went on to say that the case is currently being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588). If convicted, the individual faces a maximum fine of RM500,000, or up to two years of imprisonment, or both.
MCMC reiterated its refusal to compromise on any form of misuse of social media platforms for spreading offensive content or false allegations. The commission also reaffirmed its commitment to swiftly take firm action against such transgressions to maintain public order and national harmony.

Just last month, the commission launched civil court proceedings against “Edisi Siasat” and “Edisi Khas” over alleged dissemination of harmful content. The two Telegram channels are known for posting unverified claims regarding political figures and government agencies.
