It has only been a week since Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold7, but it seems the book-style foldable might already be exhibiting some issues, namely with the redesigned hinge. Some keen-eyed individuals have noticed that the display units in stores aren’t opening completely flat.
One such individual took to Reddit to share their observation and posted a picture of the device showing that it is slightly folded despite supposedly being opened completely. While many others chimed in to report the same issue happening to other units, a good number of users did not face this problem.

Some users speculated that the models could be worn out from too much handling, given that they are display units for customers to try out. Even so, the fact that such an issue has started to arise shortly after the phone’s release could hint at a potential vulnerability with the new hinge design.
Samsung reworked the entire hinge mechanism to achieve an ultra slim build for the Galaxy Z Fold7. This thinner and lighter Armor FlexHinge is also meant to considerably reduce the crease on the interior display. The company also claimed that the hinge has a new multi-rail structure for durability, so the affected phones should not be showing signs of wear so soon.
It is worth noting that foldables, especially the ultra thin ones of today, do not open completely flat, as evidenced by our Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 and HONOR Magic V5 review units. However, these phones do not exhibit the same amount of bending as seen in the Reddit post.
