In addition to the Nothing Phone (3), the brand also officially unveiled the Headphone (1), which has the unmistakable design language of the company. Though beyond just the way it looks, it also features functionality that is very different by today’s standards, and maybe even traditional to some.
Let’s start off with the basics. We have 40mm drivers, a battery life of 80 hours with ANC and 35 without, and even an IP52 rating. There are a total of four mics spread across it for calls and said ANC, and connectivity is done via Bluetooth 5.3, with a 3.5mm audio jack still being an option. The ear cups have an aluminium frame, with a plastic shell on top as well for the band. Where you’d expect faux leather to be, it feels more like rubber instead.
Moving on to the user interface though, Nothing has chosen to not go with touch sensors on the Headphone (1), opting for loads of physical controls instead. This includes a volume control roller and a paddle to rewind, fast forward to skip tracks.
The power button serves as just that, and the Bluetooth pairing button is hidden away on the inside of the frame. Finally there’s one dedicated to voice assistants or serves as an auxiliary to the Essential Space. All of these are also on the right cup, rather than being split between the two cups.
The Nothing Headphone (1) has an asking price of US$299 (~RM1,261), also coming in black and white options. Like the Phone (3), pre-orders open from 4 to 14 July, but no word on local details just yet.
