Mercedes-AMG has recently unveiled the Concept AMG GT XX which a striking four-door coupe. It  is also reported that this concept gives a direct preview of the of the next-generation AMG GT 4-Door.

Based on the preview, it still carries the spirit of the GT 4-Door — long bonnet, sleek fastback roofline, muscular stance — but it’s been reimagined. The front is dominated by a massive concave Panamericana-style grille, flanked by ultra-slim headlights and hidden speakers that literally play synthetic V8 noises. Around the back, there’s no rear window. Instead, you get six circular tail lights and a LED light strip made of 700+ individual LEDs that can display graphics and messages.

Step inside and it gets even wilder. Since it’s still a concept, Mercedes designers went full imagination mode. There’s a yoke-style steering wheel straight out of a GT3 car, plus a centre console with a circular element that looks like Iron Man’s arc reactor. The seats use 3D-printed ergonomic inserts, and materials are all sustainably sourced — think recycled GT3 tyres turned into leather-like upholstery and protein-based door pulls. You even get exposed carbon fibre on the ceiling because there’s no headliner. It’s raw, radical, and refreshingly different.

Now let’s talk power. The AMG GT XX packs over 1,360 hp and can hit a top speed of 360 km/h. That’s thanks to a tri-motor setup — one motor at the front and two at the rear, all axial flux motors made by Yasa. These motors are not only 66% lighter than conventional ones, but also pack up to three times more power. The front motor can even disconnect under light load to reduce drag, showing how efficiency and performance go hand in hand here.

To keep things cool, Mercedes engineered what it calls HP.EDU (High Performance Electric Drive Units), with hydraulic cooling systems built into the motors. This lets them push the motors hard without a performance drop. The battery? A 114 kWh monster with over 3,000 individually cooled cells, each wrapped in oil for direct thermal control. There’s also a passive cooling plate underneath, fed by active air ducts.

Range-wise, Mercedes hasn’t given exact numbers, but with theoretical 850 kW charging, it claims you could regain 400 km WLTP of range in just five minutes . Aerodynamics were key, too. The car has a drag coefficient of just 0.19 Cd, active airbrakes, a carbon venturi tunnel underneath (inspired by F1), and even adaptive wheel blades that open or close for either brake cooling or drag reduction.

Due in production form next year — with an SUV version following in 2027 — the GT XX might just redefine what an electric performance car can be. If AMG can carry even half of this tech over to the final product, the future of fast looks seriously exciting.
