Garmin Malaysia has announced its newest health-tracking wearable, the Index Sleep Monitor. As the name suggests, the device is a smart sleep band that tracks the wearer’s sleep to offer comprehensive insights on overall health and fitness. The lightweight band is worn on the upper arm and collects various data as the user sleeps.
The device features no displays or buttons, consisting only of an adjustable band made of nylon and spandex, and a module housing the sensors. The module can be detached so the band can be cleaned. According to the company, the band is machine washable on a gentle cycle. As for battery life, the Index Sleep Monitor offers up to seven nights’ worth of use.
Throughout the night, the band tracks the wearer’s sleep stages, heart rate variability (HRV) status, blood oxygen saturation, breathing variations, skin temperature, and more. These metrics are then used to calculate the user’s sleep score.
The data collected by the device is synced to the Garmin Connect smartphone app, where the user can view their sleep and recovery metrics. This information can also be combined with the data from a compatible Garmin smartwatch, allowing for more comprehensive insights. One example of this can be seen in the Body Battery energy monitoring feature, which checks whether the user needs more rest. Using the band and smartwatch together lets the user see their energy levels during the day and night.

Another feature of the Index Sleep Monitor is the smart wake alarm. This feature seeks out the lighter sleep stages within a pre-selected window of time and uses a light vibration to gently wake the wearer. According to Garmin, the smart wake alarm serves to help the user feel more refreshed when they wake up.
The Garmin Index Sleep Monitor comes in two sizes, S-M and L-XL, and is priced at RM739. It can be purchased from the brand’s retail stores and authorised retailers, as well as its website and online stores on Shopee and Lazada.
