Apple avoided mentioning the Siri AI upgrade at this year’s WWDC keynote despite heavily promoting the on-device assistant at last year’s event. Of course, this hardly comes as a surprise given the fact that the promised upgrades to the on-device assistant kept being delayed. At the moment, the company is looking to release these upgrades next year.
According to a Bloomberg report by Mark Gurman, Apple is planning to launch the revamped Siri with iOS 26.4, which is an update that is usually released in March. The report went on to say that other than a spring time frame, the iPhone maker has no specific date set for the software. The new-and-improved Siri was initially slated for a late 2024 rollout, before being delayed to 2025. Further hiccups in development have pushed the release even further into the future.

Previously, it was reported that engineering issues contributed to these delays. Essentially, Siri had been split into two parts, comprising an old system used for common tasks as well as a new one for the advanced features. Combining the two architectures led to bugs and failures, which resulted in the need to rebuild Siri from the ground up.
This new Siri is intended to rely on user data and on-screen content to perform contextual, multi-step tasks. Naturally, Apple has more ambitious plans for the future, which involves turning Siri into a conversational, always-on device copilot. The company is also apparently working on a chatbot-like app, Knowledge, which can access the open web.
