New Nintendo Products Spotted On SIRIM, But…

You guessed. No Switch 2. However, one half of its Joy-Cons recently got its approval from the agency.

[UPDATE: 13 June 2025 – 1:35pm] Good news. We’ve discovered that the Nintendo Switch 2’s left Joy-Con had just received its approval from SIRIM today. Unfortunately, the hero product itself is still nowhere to be seen, but seeing how things are progressing, it might just get its approval soon enough.

While consumers in other Southeast Asian countries – including Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines – eagerly anticipate the arrival of the Switch 2 on 26 June, those of us in Malaysia are still left in suspense. As we’ve reported previously, sources familiar with the matter have informed us that Nintendo’s next-gen handheld console is still undergoing SIRIM screening. With Malaysia omitted from the company’s late May announcement, it’s increasingly likely that we’ll receive the device later than our neighbours.

That said, there’s a silver lining. During our recent check of SIRIM’s database, we’ve discovered that the second-generation Pro Controller as well as one half of the Switch 2’s detachable controllers – specifically, the Joy-Con 2 (R) – have recently received their approvals from the agency.

These are listed under MMSoft Malaysia Sdn Bhd, the local arm of Singapore-based Maxsoft Pte Ltd, an official Nintendo distributor in our region. According to the listings, both devices were approved by SIRIM just yesterday, on 11 June 2025.

The takeaway here is that the approval process for the Nintendo Switch 2 seems to be progressing smoothly. It’s expected that the remaining accessories – and the console itself – may also receive approval in the near future. However, it’s still unlikely that Malaysia will see a local release on 26 June, even if everything gets greenlit by then.

At this rate, the Switch 2 and its accompanying accessories may only arrive here in July, aligning with Nintendo’s original timeline for Malaysia. As for the exact date, that remains anyone’s guess for now.
