Rapid KL has expanded its Demand-Responsive Transit (DRT) service initiative and with it, has introduced a new app of its own called Rapid On-Demand. This is a massive departure from how it has operated the service up until now, which involved partnerships with third-party companies that include Kummute, Mobi, and Trek Rides.
Starting from 9 June, the public transport operator is adding 13 new zones to the DRT service. Its in-house app, Rapid On-Demand will support 11 of them, which covers 11 MRT stations, while Kummute gets two new zones. This means that in total, the service now offers a total of 47 zones in an effort to plug the gap in first-last mile connectivity.
The on-demand service is available daily from 6AM to 11.30PM, with a promotional price of RM1. Users can pay with Touch ‘n Go as well as debit and credit cards. Those with travel passes such as the OKU smile pass and the My50 pass can use the service for free just by tapping.
The Rapid On-Demand app is now available on both the Google Play Store and the Apple App store. Keep in mind that while Kummute is a partner of this initiative, some of the zones covered in the app are not under Rapid KL, thus it charges higher prices and it does not accept My50.
