Dutch Gamer Buys NVIDIA RTX 5090 On Amazon, Gets Pasta And Mystery GPU Instead

That's just pre-pasta-rous!

A Redditor from the Netherlands recently shared their story on how they were scammed out of an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090. They purchased the card from Amazon, only to receive a box filled with pasta, rice, and a mystery GPU.

Redditor OK-Atmosphere7655 said that they saved for weeks to afford an Aorus Master RTX 5090. It’s an expensive purchase, no doubt, but Ok-Atmosphere says that they wanted to make the most out of their Dual UHD, 240Hz, 57-inch Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 gaming monitor. A small irony here is that the card they purchased? It was actually the cheapest model in the Netherlands, costing €2,950 (~RM14,269).

I made the wonderful mistake of ordering a 5090 from Amazon Netherlands…

When the “RTX 5090” arrived, you’d imagine the anticipation and glee Ok-Atmosphere, followed by the feeling of their stomach dropping to the floor upon opening it up and finding bags of pasta and rice, as well as the mystery GPU. They weren’t even able to identify the card on the spot but internet sleuths seem to think that it is an oled Galax card for the European market, and quite possibly either a GTX 1080 or GTX 1080 Ti.

Did Ok-Atmosphere reach out to Amazon? According to them, the company did ask for photographic evidence and for the box and its contents to be returned for inspection. Since then, Ok-Atmosphere hasn’t heard a word.

Perhaps this is us repeating ourselves but scammers are really the lowest, bottom of the barrel, of the degenerate sub-species of the human race. This also isn’t the first time that Amazon has facilitated a GPU scam either. Back in 2022, a man purchased an RTX 3080 via Amazon Brazil, and when he received the package, it contained anything but the card he purchased. They felt the box’s weight was off and, after getting his wife to record him opening the package, finding multiple jars and pots of sand made him realise that he was the victim of a very expensive scam.

Then, as now, Amazon initially didn’t do much to help the Brazilian man, up until the latter filed a lawsuit against the US-based conglomerate in Brazilian Small Claims Court, and it made national news. At that point, it was im-fussili-ble to ignore the issue.
