The Nissan Leaf was one of the pioneering models in the electric vehicle segment. In March, Nissan unveiled the third-generation Leaf, and on 3 June, the company released a three-part short video series offering more details ahead of its global launch later this month.
In terms of design, the company claimed that it is anchored around the aerodynamics of the EV. In the front it features horizontal LED headlights and a rectangular shaped daytime running lights. It also has an active grille shutter, flush door handles, a flat underbody and 19-inch alloy wheels.
Meanwhile, European variants will be fitted with a unique wheel and door mirror design. However, there was not much information on the rear design except for the fact that it features a rear tailgate that creates an aerofoil effect that merges with the fastback design of the Leaf.
The only revealed detail about the Nissan’s interior is its advanced panoramic roof, which features electrochromic technology allowing users to adjust the glass transparency. It also comes along with an infrared (IR) reflective coating that minimises heat from sunlight for enhanced comfort.
The Nissan Leaf is built based on Common Module Family (CMF-EV), which was previously used by the Ariya electric crossover. However, no further specifications were revealed on the powertrain except for the fact that it will have a range of between 300 to 500 km, according to company vice president of global product strategy Richard Candler. He also added that with 14 minutes of DC charging, the Leaf is able to gain 250 km of range.
As for the price, the automaker is being tight-lipped about it. Just for reference, the current Nissan Leaf starts from RM168,888 in Malaysia.
