Samsung is reportedly planning on implementing an inactive Samsung account policy, which will see accounts that have been inactive for a certain period removed. According to SamMobile, the company has notified users that starting 31 July 2025, accounts that have not been logged into or used for 24 months will be considered inactive and thus deleted.
While there are many reasons companies would purge unused or abandoned accounts, apparently Samsung is concerned with privacy. This policy is intended to protect the data of users who have not used their accounts in two years. Once an account is deleted, all of the data associated with the account will be removed from Samsung’s servers. Accounts and data cannot be restored once deleted, so any important information will be lost permanently.
Fortunately, there is a way to avoid losing access to the data. Users who want to prevent their accounts from being deleted only need to log into their accounts so they are no longer considered inactive. Of course, active users have nothing to worry about as their accounts are not at risk of deletion.
Samsung is also sending notifications to emails linked to the inactive accounts to inform users of the change, so they may have the opportunity to salvage their accounts. As the policy will only come into effect at the end of next month, there is still a lot of time for users to log into their inactive accounts. That said though, it is probably best to do it sooner rather than later.
