Sony, via its PlayStation brand, has officially introduced its first-ever wireless fight stick, codenamed Project Defiant, designed specifically for PlayStation 5 and PC. Revealed during the June 2025 State of Play event, the controller promises ultra-low latency through the company’s PlayStation Link wireless connectivity technology.
Project Defiant is equipped with a newly developed digital stick that’s designed in-house by Sony, which is claimed to allow players to customise their experience with toolless interchangeable restrictor gates, available in square, circular and octagonal options. Meanwhile, the buttons on the controller are mechanical switches, chosen for their durability and tactile response, while the inclusion of a touchpad – similar to the one found on the DualSense controller – adds an extra layer of versatility for games that support it.

As mentioned earlier, the controller utilises PlayStation Link to link wirelessly to the PS5 and compatible devices, relying on 2.4GHz connectivity through an included USB dongle. For reference, the adapter is also utilised by the brand’s Portal remote player and PULSE series headphones, and is available on its own for RM119. Anyway, those who prefer a wired connection, or when battery life is a concern, you’ll be glad to know that Project Defiant also supports USB-C connectivity.
Design-wise, Sony says the controller leans into comfort and practicality, offering an ergonomic layout suitable for extended sessions, as well as smart storage solutions. Inside the controller is a dedicated compartment for storing extra restrictor gates and the PlayStation Link USB adapter. Additionally, a carry case, which comes with a lever gap to protect the stick during travel, is included as part of the package.
The upcoming first-party fight stick is slated for a 2026 release, though pricing and regional availability have yet to be confirmed. Sony also notes that Project Defiant will be rebranded with an official product name closer to launch.
