Samsung is expected to launch its latest set of foldables, namely the Galaxy Z Flip7 and Fold7, in July. Naturally, these upcoming devices have been subject to a myriad of rumours and supposed leaks. The Flip7’s chipset has been of particular interest, with conflicting information surfacing over the past few months.
Back in April, it was rumoured that the Flip7 will pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC. It was later said that the clamshell foldable will be running on Samsung’s in-house Exynos 2500 chipset. And now, a new report by Korean outlet Hankyung is claiming that the Exynos 2500 will only be used in the version released in Korea, while other regions will be getting the Snapdragon 8 Elite instead.

Samsung is no stranger to releasing phones with different chipsets based on region, so it would not be that surprising if the Flip7 got the same treatment. While there could be many reasons the company would want to use different chipsets, it is speculated that this case might be attributed to a less than ideal yield rate of Exynos chips.
Of course, this information did not come directly from Samsung, so a healthy dose of scepticism is warranted. But if this does turn out to be true, then consumers outside of Korea will be getting the better version of the device. The Snapdragon 8 Elite has been shown to outperform the latest Exynos, so a Snapdragon-powered phone will likely make for a smoother user experience.
