The Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025 is set to take place in just a few weeks, and while other tech companies are focusing on AI-based innovations, Apple will reportedly be highlighting a design overhaul for its operating systems. According to Bloomberg, the new interface is internally called “Solarium” and features a slicker and more modern look.
The name comes from glass rooms that let in a lot of sunlight, which probably gives the user an idea of what to expect in terms of design elements. The WWDC artwork also seems to hint at the UI update as it depicts a reflective and translucent icon. Additionally, the visual style of the new interface is allegedly based on visionOS.

It looks like Apple is aiming for consistency and unification with this design overhaul, as the changes will not only apply to iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, but other operating systems as well. Apparently, tvOS and watchOS will be updated to match the rest, while visionOS will also get some tweaks. This should mean that the user will largely have the same experience when interacting with the same functions across different devices.
That said, while a visual update for Apple’s operating systems is long overdue, it probably won’t make for exciting news, especially in a time where consumers expect more AI-powered features. And while the company is currently working on AI upgrades for Siri, it is quite unlikely that these updates will be the focus of the upcoming event.
