As Google prepares to release Android 16 next month, Nothing has confirmed that one of its devices is definitely not going to receive the update. Of course, the device is none other than the company’s very first smartphone, the Nothing Phone (1).
A company representative told Android Authority that the Nothing Phone (1) will not support Android 16, but will receive security updates. The brief statement did not specify how long the company will be issuing security patches for the phone, but according to Nothing’s update policy, the device gets four years of security updates. This means that the Phone (1) should still be good against potential threats for another year.

The phone was released back in 2022 and ran on Android 12, with Nothing promising three major OS updates. Since then, the device has been updated to Android 13, 14, and 15. So the lack of an Android 16 update for the Phone (1) is not unexpected news. Still, the confirmation has dashed any hopes for a surprise upgrade.
With no more OS updates and just a year of security patches left, the phone is approaching the end of the line. While Nothing currently has newer models on the market for those looking to upgrade their phones, the company is also preparing to launch its first flagship-tier smartphone, the Nothing Phone (3).
