The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has launched a new design of the Malaysian Driving License (LLM) cards, which has enhanced security features. According to the JPJ director-general, Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, the new version of the LLM card was distributed in stages starting 21 May.
Physical printing of the latest version of the card is currently limited to two categories, which are Malaysian citizens travelling abroad, and non-citizens renewing their LLM. Ramli added that the general public renewing their licenses will only be provided with the digital version through the MyJPJ app. In the event the applicant is travelling overseas, they can request for a physical version. Issuance of these cards are said to be done progressively at selected JPJ offices, to allow for a smooth transition.

“We know not all countries accept digital licenses except for Singapore, which has accepted it, but there are other countries that do not,” stated Ramli. “Travellers need to carry a physical licence along with an International Driving Permit (IDP), which can be applied for at JPJ. Every country has different regulations”.
The latest LLM card is apparently capable of preventing card tampering and forgery, and is designed to last up to a decade. As for its design, the front features the Sultan Abdul Samad building in the background, along with abstract wave motifs. On its back is the Istana Negara and abstract floral motifs.
