MG Motor Malaysia has officially launched the all-new MG S5 EV SUV, with prices starting at RM115,900 for the COM variant, RM125,900 for the COM Long Range, and RM135,900 for the premium LUX Long Range.

To mark both the launch and MG’s first anniversary in Malaysia, the first 500 buyers will enjoy an exclusive early birds offer. This includes RM6,000 in savings—bringing the starting price down to just RM109,900—as well as a complimentary 7kW Wallbox AC home charger for added convenience.

The MG S5 EV was recently previewed at the Malaysia Auto Show (MAS 2025). As a quick recap, both the COM and LUX variants of this fully electric SUV come equipped with LED headlamps featuring ‘Racing Flag’ themed daytime running lights and arch tail lights. Inside, the MG S5 features a 12.8-inch central infotainment, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and MG’s iSMART connectivity system.

Key highlights include Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a boot space of up to 1,441 litres. The LUX variant adds premium touches such as 18-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless phone charging pad, six premium speakers, and a 360-degree surround view camera.

In terms of powertrain, the Com variant features 49 kWh and 62 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries that have a WLTP range of 340 km and 430 km respectively. Meanwhile, the Lux variant comes with the 62 kWh battery. All variants deliver 170PS and 250Nm of torque via a Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) configuration – an uncommon feature in the B-segment SUV category, according to MG Motor.

As for charging, all variants support up to 7 kW AC and 120 kW DC charging, with the LUX model capable of accepting up to 150 kW DC. The latter enables a 10–80% state-of-charge top-up in just 26 minutes.

The MG S5 EV is available in five colours: Arctic White, Monument Silver, Camden Grey, Dynamic Red, and Elegant Latte—the last being exclusive to the LUX variant. The vehicle comes with a seven-year/150,000km factory warranty, along with an eight-year/180,000km warranty for the EV battery and an eight-year/160,000 km warranty for the drive motor and motor control unit.

With these specs and competitive pricing, the MG S5 EV is clearly aiming to challenge rivals like the Proton e.MAS and BYD Atto 3. For context, the Proton e.MAS 7 is priced from RM109,800 to RM123,800, while the BYD Atto 3 Ultra retails for RM123,800 (with a current promotion lowering it to RM118,800).
