National car maker, Proton, has launched the Proton Xchange Programme in collaboration with Car Medic Sdn. Bhd. This programme allows car owners who possess cars aged 15 years that are deemed “unroadworthy” to be traded in for a new model from the automaker, including its e.MAS7 EV.

Proton has dedicated RM4.8 million for the programme, where the car owners would be given RM2,000 through the trade. The sum would be given as a discount, or as financial assistance for customers to register a new model from the company.

Furthermore, the new models that are registered under the Proton Xchange Programme will receive complimentary road tax for one year. This was announced by the Transport Minister, YB Anthony Loke Siew Fook, at the programme’s launch that was held earlier today.

To qualify for the incentive, vehicles must be a minimum of 15 years old and deemed too costly to repair for safe use. Eligible vehicles include sedans, MPVs, vans, 4x4s, lorries and buses, with proof of ownership required.

To receive the RM2,000 overtrade incentive, buyers must register a new Proton vehicle before the end of the year. Applicants must also submit the Vehicle Ownership Certificate, the JPJK1KD form (confirming de-registration by JPJ), and a Certificate of Destruction issued by Car Medic Sdn Bhd.

Car Medic Sdn Bhd, which has been certified by the Department of Environment (DOE) and designated by JPJ as an AATF since 2020, provides e-Dereg services, managing de-registration, towing, safe disposal, and issuing Certificates of Destruction (COD) for this programme.

All Malaysians in certain locations can use this service to digitally deregister their vehicles with JPJ at the site of their car. It can also help groups of more than five vehicles with e-Dereg in as little as two days.
