The Ministry of Communications, through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has reportedly removed 10,493 pieces of fake content, and 30,427 scam-related items from online platforms. The removal of these nefarious content took place from between January this year, until 15 April.
Teo Nie Ching, the Deputy Communications Minister, stated that the statistics show that the public should not be passive when reading and accepting information online. Instead, the content should be verified and identified beforehand. Acknowledging that while it’s common to receive information from the internet, Teo also reminded the public to be more vigilant.

“Consuming and accepting information online requires today’s society to be more digitally literate. This means not all information received via today’s technologies can be accepted at face value”. This statement was made during the 2025 Communications Ministry-level “Let’s Read Together” programme, which was held today.
According to Teo, the government is be implementing a Safe Internet Campaign in order to ensure accurate information dissemination and prioritise safe internet usage among children. The campaign is reportedly being rolled out to primary and secondary schools, as well as all public universities by the end of the year. As of 1 May, it has been implemented in nine schools.
