Perodua assures the public that safety remains its top priority in the development of its first EV. Its president and Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad, emphasised that safety is being prioritised at every stage of the process — from the vehicle itself to factory operations and worker welfare.
While many people are eagerly awaiting the launch of Perodua’s EV later this year, some are raising concerns about the safety of electric vehicles. These concerns have intensified following recent incidents involving a BYD Atto 3 and, separately, an Audi e-tron GT.

Speaking to reporters during the launch of the Voluntary Next Generation Vehicle (NxGV) Labelling Scheme yesterday, Zainal said strict adherence to safety standards is being maintained to prevent any untoward incidents. “Insyaallah, we hope our car that will be released later will meet certain safety standards that we have selected and defined,” he added.
Perodua recently revealed the final prototype of its EMO EV concept at the ongoing Malaysia Auto Show (MAS 2025) last week. During the event, Zainal Abidin stated that it will be finalised for production by the end of October and will be assembled at the automaker’s new plant in Rawang, Selangor. It is also expected to debut with a price tag below RM100,000.
