Proton has officially unveiled its second electric vehicle, the e.MAS 5, at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 today. Although still clad in camouflage, the model is revealed to be a compact hatchback.
Like its larger sibling, the e.MAS 7, Proton’s second EV is based on an existing Geely model which, in this case, the Geely Star Wish. This is evident from the car’s rounded design, sweptback lights, and distinctive C-pillar styling.
Unfortunately, the e.MAS 5’s interior remains off-limits for now. Using the Star Wish as reference, there’s a chance that it may feature a dual-cowl dashboard, 8.8-inch digital cluster, 14.6-inch touchscreen, ambient lighting, and illuminated dash panels. Other expected equipment includes automatic air-conditioning with rear vents, power front seats, wireless charging, vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, and a suite of driver assistance systems like autonomous emergency braking and lane departure warning.
As for specifications, sadly, Proton is still keeping a tight lid on this. Again, referring to the Geely Star Wish, we may see either a 79 PS motor paired with a 30.12 kWh battery offering up to 310 km range, or a more powerful 116 PS motor with a 40.16 kWh battery and up to 410 km range (both CLTC-rated). It is also possible for the local automaker to introduce a larger battery capacity, allowing for better range on the e.MAS 5.
Pricing is still unknown, but it is expected that the upcoming EV will be more affordable than the e.MAS 7. The all-new Proton e.MAS 5 is slated to launch by the end of 2025.
